One Million Acts of Kindness

Featured Video on YouTube

November 15th, 2011
11-15-11Why is this man celebrating?
I had just received news from my son, Alex, that YouTube was featuring a short film clip of One Million Acts Of Kindness at the beginning of The Kindness Bicycle / Kindness Bus Tour in New York City this past May. The film clip ran on Youtube on Sunday of this past weekend.
Debbie Egan-Chin reporter for The New York Daily News put together this video and news story which ran in her paper in late May. In the one day time period that this piece was featured on YouTube, this past weekend, over 400,000 viewers chose to watch the video.
It is amazing to me that I had just written a blog called, “Viral Impact,” a little over a week ago about the possibility of One Million Acts Of Kindness “going viral,” if YouTube or another form of social media decided to promote what I do.
Thank you to the “powers that be” at Youtube, for helping to spread the word about all of us having a goal of kindness in our lives…a goal of One Million Acts Of Kindness. My sincerest gratitude, Bob Votruba and Bogart too!!

Seva Mob Lissabon danced to the rhythm of grateful smiles from ear to ear

Seva Mob Lisboa

Here are some photos I took from my phone. I went to the florist to explain what we were doing and ask what was the maximum number of flowers that could give me the lowest possible number of pennies. She gave me a wet them and said it was nothing:) I got to the Rossio with the material to the action and started to distribute flyers (well it losing Tereza) people who passed by, which were basically tourists. They were interested and were getting there. But four members of the Rhythms of Resistance arrived and they were ready to start playing when it started to rain:) The people scattered a little and I proposed that we hold us under a tree.
We did so, and although the tree does not fully protect us from rain, soon began acts of kindness when he came to Elizabeth Jacques and protected with its umbrella a member of the Rhythms of Resistance. More people came together to protect the musicians continued to play beautifully and listen to music even in the rain. When the rain slowed, then explained what was SEVA - usually stating that we operate in order to get something and that what we all really want is to get peace and happiness. SEVA is an action that seeks not to happiness but, instead, springs from happiness we already feel. And what is the secret to realizing the happiness that is there ...? is to be grateful! Then close your eyes and think of what we have in all the people in our lives and support us, thank you for all that nature gives us, under (as at that moment the rain:), food .. Thanks to the team and finally we thank ourselves for being there to do what we were doing.
From there, with a big smile on his face and sincere distribute flowers, smiles and words in spontaneous acts of kindness, which brought a smile to the faces and lives of those who received them.
At the end we shared experiences and feelings, some reported the fact that others turn away and refuse to acts of kindness (perhaps the result of fear and lack of faith in acts of gratuitous ...), others reported receiving smiles and the good that felt after the experience ...
I have shared and will share with you here as well: only had one more rose in his hand and saw a policeman very seriously. I decided it would be a good opportunity to give someone a smile and handed her the flower. He looked at me with a smile and explained that he could not accept the rose, for "where is that we have seen a policeman working with a shallow in your hand?", She said it with tenderness and showed willingness to accept and sentence for can not do it. So I tell him that he need not keep the rose in his hand and that can give someone. Then he says "is to see that store there in front? Work there a blonde lady. Can you give the rose to her?" so happy and I say "absolutely yes" and I say to the store, give the rose and say, "Mr. Police asked me to give you this flower." The lady smiled from ear to ear and looked embarrassed for the police through the window. I let them dating to the distance and I went to the rest of the staff. After this moment I felt like floating, my feet leaped for joy and the body seemed to be dancing to the rhythm of the steps. I felt so much joy and willingness to share the joy that barely fit on me;)
Another episode was the fact that pass someone, whom the other party Seva Mob had already given a flower, and he call me and say "look here many yogurts that I brought with me today, do you get one?" came in handy for scarcely had taken breakfast;) and proved once again that acts of kindness are contagious. People who receive them are also willing to share with others and do something good for someone or the world at large. We think we have given only a smile to someone, but actually that smile back with him a change in all people who interact with him and actually have no idea the impact that each act has to do.
Well there are all those who participated in this wonderful action, to Teresa that we made the flyers and you Catarina, which drives you this idea and thereby contribute to growth and happiness of so many.
